My plans for 2021

If you’re like me you benefit from seeing other folks’ goals and aspirations. This is why I am sharing mine. It’ll keep me accountable, and I might just reach some of my targets. By being open with you all, you’ll certainly be able to see my failures and successes. After all, I wanted this blog to be a raw and real representation of my experiences.

I’m a pretty optimistic person, but even I limit myself to three goal themes each year. My goal themes this year are:

  1. Learning
  2. Technical
  3. Behavioral

Let’s take a look at my first set of goals

As you’ll soon discover, I love to learn! That’s why I’ve chosen learning as one of my core goals this year. It feeds into some of the core aspects of my fulfilment, (I wrote about discovering what made me fulfilled here).

I’ve split my goal theme into three actions. This helps me narrow down into evidencing. If I wrote my main goal for the year as “I want to have learnt more” that wouldn’t be very specific. So this is an essential activity for me to narrow and define my ideas into SMART goals.

Objectives that help my career

Goal Action (3 per Goal) Evidence (3 per Action)
Learning
Education (Broad)
Free AI Certification
Copywriting cert
Digital Writing Skills Course
Education (Narrow)

Digital Writing Skills

I still have my day job. My 9-5. I know I am very lucky and privileged to still be employed, and I am very aware that no position is stable, which is why I like to better myself at the job I am already doing. This may not help me keep my job, but it should help me focus on the things that I can change.

I’ve split learning into 3 Actions:

  • Broad Education (Things I am interested in, but don’t necessarily help me get better at my day job).
  • Narrow Education
(Things which feed into my day job)
  • Hands-on Experience
(Putting the things I’ve learned into practice)

Once I narrowed my main theme into three actions, I could then assign three evidence-based activities to provide me with the evidence to prove I had succeeded with my goal.

I’ll keep you up to date on my progress as I go! As you can see, some of these goals will help me with this blog, and some of my side hustle activities. More things for me to share with you!

Yep, you’ve been warned, I’m a bit of a geek. Because of this, I want to experiment with the digital world, and what opportunities it offers. Essentially the reason I’m blogging here, now.

I’ve split learning into 3 Actions:

  • Business (I’m kind of looking at this whole blogging experiment as working for myself).
  • Strategy
(I want to evidence in my 9-5 that I have suitable experience for my next step. This is why I have set making documented experiences as a priority this year).
  • Putting into Practice
(You guessed it, hands on experience).

One of the main areas of work I do that helps me feel fulfilled, is when I give back.
To make sure I spend 2021 in ways that help others, I’ve made behavioral excellence a theme. Because helping others actually feels really good!

I’ve split learning into 3 Actions:

  • Coaching (I’ve been in management positions before, but I want to offer emotional support to those around me, and help them to develop their own solutions to their problems. This is very important to me).
  • Building Confidence and sharing success
(Believe it or not, I’m actually a bit of an introvert. In order to deliver better content for you, I need to get better social skills, so this is why I’m going to strive to be better. Especially if it means I get to help more people).
  • Community
(I truly believe that giving back gives my life a sense of purpose, so I am determined to get more stuck in this year).

Don’t let your dreams be dreams

We’re going to make them into reality. Wow, putting them all together makes it look like a bit of a mountain though. However, we’ll be surprised by how far we get by taking small steps towards our goals every day.

How about you? What are your goals for the year? Do you have any hot tips or tricks for planning your goals?
